PSN Name Change Option Might Finally be Coming Soon

PSN name change

Choosing a PlayStation Network name feels like getting a tattoo. From what feels like ages now, PSN users have been asking for the ability to change their profile names. However, so far users have been stuck with the likes of “ChuckNorris69Blat”, “Ilove (insert ex’s name here)” and so forth. Now, it seems like a PSN name change option might finally be coming soon.

PSN Name Change Option

Although there is no specific release date for this long-awaited feature (pretty much since the PSN launched in 2006), it looks like things are moving in the right direction. This news comes from Kotaku, who reports that three game studios spoke to them and revealed that they are tweaking settings, fixing bugs and the like so that their games are “compatible with Sony’s plans” when speaking about the name change option.

Interestingly, a fourth person reportedly shared a photo with Kotaku, showing documentation from Sony complete with a PSN profile which contained the option to edit the username. This documentation was, according to their source, a guide to for users to change their usernames.

At the PlayStation Experience last year, Sony’s Shawn Layden responded with the following hopeful statement about a PSN name change option:

You won’t have to ask me that question next PSX.

Sure, the PlayStation Experience this year isn’t going to happen, but I think Mr Layden still meant that the name change option will be available to PSN users before the end of 2018. It is a long-overdue feature for the PSN and one that might not mean much to some, while for others it means quite a lot.

Are you excited for the PSN name change option to finally get released or are you happy with your current username on the PSN? Let us know in the comment section below.
