Huawei Pokes Fun at Nintendo With Their Giant Mate 20 X Gaming Phone

Huawei Mate 20 X

Now I am all for competition in the industry but if you are taking on a company you better know what you are doing and Huawei, as much as I love you guys, are barking up the wrong tree here by claiming that their new Huawei Mate 20 X is better than the Nintendo Switch.

During the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro reveal that took place the other day, the company also revealed a new device, the Mate 20 X which is their giant phablet phone targeted at gamers. This 7.2 inch OLED is beautiful but the claims that the company mentioned would leave any knowledgeable gamer scratching their heads.

We all know Nintendo is the king of portable gaming so when Huawei decides to claim that the new Mate 20 X is the “best portable gaming device” and then compare it directly to the Nintendo Switch, we were all taken back. Firstly, the company compared the screen. The Mate 20 X has a 7.2 inch OLED and Switch has a 6.2 inch LCD. Both are 1080p. Huawei then compared battery life which they claim the Mate 20 X has 6.67 hours and Switch has 3.03 hours of battery life. Which is true when playing hardcore games but the battery life can last much longer in certain circumstances.

Lastly, the company decided to throw shade at the Joy-Cons which in my opinion are one of the greatest inventions in this generation of gaming. They showed that they too can attach an analogue device to the Mate 20 X and turn it into a portable console. But the biggest setback here is that the Mate 20 X is powered by the powerful Kirin 980 chipset which is no NVIDIA GPU which the Switch has. So while yes, it has a bigger screen and better battery life, you will never play Diablo 3: Eternal Collection on it and you will certainly not play DOOM or Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

Check out the shade being thrown in the reveal below. Skip to the 1 hour, 53 minute, 20-second mark to watch the Switch comparison.

Lastly, the Mate 20 X costs $1000 so when you compare all that so-called “best portable gaming device” mumbo-jumbo to the Switch, you would expect it to fly you to the moon for that price. Yeah, I will stick to my Switch and play some of the best games of this generation and leave Fortnite mobile out of my life, thank you.
