Bioware announced some of Anthem‘s demo details to press just before the developer kicked off their PAX West panel yesterday.
According to Dualshockers, the Anthem demo will release on 01 February 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game launches worldwide on February 21, just three weeks after the demo. The demo will not be an alpha or beta build, but a “complete” and accurate representation of the final product.
Since Anthem is a shared world experience, Bioware will have to do extensive testing for its online components, so we can expect alpha and beta periods, hopefully before the end of 2018.
The demo will release simultaneously on all three platforms for those who either pre-order Anthem, and, of course, for Origin and EA Access as well as Origin Access Premier subscribers.
The new gameplay features trailer showcases the beautiful world of Anthem and how players will experience it together – as well as alone. “At the heart of Anthem is the concept of Our World, My Story,” explains Bioware. “The unique combination of a dynamic, ever-changing world, and a power, personal story.”
As we’ve explained in our article about Anthem’s solo and co-op play; when in a group, the world narrative advances for all participants. I wouldn’t recommend Anthem for those who desire a solo experience, as it sounds like a lot of the game’s best content is reserved for group play. That being said, according to Bioware you can play the entire game as a solo player.
You can play Anthem solo, but I don’t believe you will experience everything the game has to offer. For example, group missions unlock stories that take you “deep into the heart of Anthem”and you’ll meet key NPCs that only feature in these missions.
The “my story” part develops inside the walls of Fort Tarsis, and centres around your pit crew. It is here that your personal choices have a direct impact on the world around you. During the PAX West panel, Anthem Executive producer Mark Darrah stated that there will only be two dialogue options available when in the My Story component, and only one mission object when in group play.
