It has been almost four years since the last Elder Scrolls game. The Elder Scrolls Online was a huge success and still boasts millions of logins on a monthly basis but for many gamers, it is avoided due to it being an MMO. Many gamers just want that offline, single player experience that we get from games like Skyrim and Oblivion. Well, we are going to have to wait a while before we can explore whatever lands the next Elder Scrolls game takes us too as Bethesda has much more planned before the release of the next game.
This news comes from quite an old interview with Pete Hines, president of Bethesda Softworks which he quoted in a tweet over the on the weekend when asked about the TES 6 announcement. When a user asked about the plans Bethesda has for the new Elder Scrolls game he responded by saying that it has not even begun development yet as the studio has two major titles in development that would release before they even start working on TES: VI.
It is also important to take note of the difference between Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios. The Softworks side of the company act as a publisher for the likes of MachineGames' Wolfenstein and Prey developed by Arkane Studios. Games like Fallout 4, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR are developed by the Bethesda Game Studios team and this is the team that will still release two more major games before the next Elder Scrolls title releases. Pete also clarifies that these two games are not mobile, but rather console and PC titles.
