Who remembers playing Xbox with that overly-sized Xbox controller back in the day? I do, and I remember how awesome it was. It was a clunky, yet effective device and worked well in my hands. It seems that the controller will be making a return in time for Christmas this year as a Seamus Blackley, creator of the original Xbox, and the man behind the recreation of this awesome controller, tweeted that it has been approved by Microsoft and is now in the manufacturing process.
From what we can see, the controller looks pretty iconic with the biggest new feature being an LCD panel on the front that will be able to display imagery. What this will be used for is still unclear but it could be used for just displaying the original logo. In a short video tweeted by the creator, we can see the LCD startup in the classic Xbox console way and I have to say it looks pretty cool.
While there is no word on pricing yet, the creator is confident that it should hit stores sometime later this year. No SA release date either. To be honest, the controller now needs to be made in batches so it might take a while to get to us if it even arrives. Still, the idea of owning a classic Xbox controller with an LCD display on the front is pretty epic and it should bring back all those childhood memories of playing Halo and Turok with it.
